ALJABR'S PROGENY FEATURED IN DRF ARTICLE

The soon to be 2-year-old progeny of ALJABR are featured in an article by pedigree handicapping expert Lauren Stitch which appears in an issue of this past week's Daily Racing Form. The article previews the freshman sires whose first runners will debut in 2004. An excerpt follows:

"ALJABR has the distinction of being a Group 1 winner at two, three and four and his best distance was one mile. His high-quality book of mares includes winners or dams of the winners of the Epsom Derby, Irish 1000 Guineas, Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, Yorkshire Oaks, and other top races. His runners will ultimately perform best on grass. It would, however, be no surprise to see some of ALJABR's offspring win on dirt because of Storm Cat's brilliant influence."

DIMITROVA WINS THE FLOWER BOWL TO BECOME SWAIN'S 1ST G1 WINNER

The exceptional DIMITROVA (00 f, o/o The Caretaker (IRE), by Caerleon), a member of SWAIN's first crop of 3-year-olds, may be based in Ireland but she feels at home on American soil. She won the prestigious Flower Bowl Invitational S.-G1 at Belmont Park in her first start over older fillies and mares to push her earnings over the $1 million mark in just eight starts. DIMITROVA raced wide coming into the stretch but looked every bit the winner, with the one-length margin of victory in the 1 1/4 mile G1 on the turf not a true indication of the strength of her win.

"We had her ready for this race and she proved to be the top filly that she is," said trainer Dermot Weld. "She is a tough, genuine filly and we have a lot to look forward to. The obvious direction is sending her to California for the Breeders' Cup (Filly & Mare Turf-G1)."

Bred in Kentucky by Muirfield Ventures and campaigning for Joseph Higgins, DIMITROVA now has three stakes wins and two additional G1 placings in only eight starts. With this G1 win, she becomes the second graded or group winner in SWAIN's first crop.

SWAIN'S MUQBIL ADDS ANOTHER G3 EVENT TO HIS RESUME

MUQBIL (00 c, o/o Istiqlal, by Diesis (GB)) was his sire's first group winner earlier this year and added yet another group placing to his record in the Select S.-G3 at Goodwood in England. Unfortunately, MUQBIL was trapped on the inside and plagued by traffic problems throughout the 1 1/4 mile race. He finished extremely well to just miss the win by a neck.

The Racing Post had the following to say, "The Greenham winner MUQBIL had a wretched passage, for it was only well inside the final furlong that he saw daylight. He finished well and was arguably unlucky. He stayed the trip well and also has the Champion Stakes as an option."

It was MUQBIL's fourth stakes win or placing (three of which have been group events) in only five career starts. He is out of a half-sister to Shadwell stallion BAHRI and from the family of Breeders' Cup winner Ajina. Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm LLC, the first-crop SWAIN son races for Hamdan al Maktoum.

The 3-year-old filly from SWAIN's first crop was in a good position midpack and angled between horses at the quarter pole. She made a bold run to the front and looked well clear, but was caught late by a rival. It was DIMITROVA's fourth stakes win or placing, including the Irish 1000 Guineas-G1.

A half-sister to champion Mutafaweq, DIMITROVA was bred in Kentucky by Muirfield Ventures. The daughter of Irish highweight The Caretaker (IRE), she races for Joseph Higgins of Ireland.

Just six weeks after placing in the Irish 1000 Guineas-G1, SWAIN's daughter DIMITROVA (00 f, o/o The Caretaker (IRE), by Caerleon) shipped to the U.S. and put in a sensational performance to capture the second running of the $750,000 American Oaks at Hollywood Park. The first-crop filly was never farther back than fourth in the 14-horse field, split rivals leaving the backstretch to take command, and gamely pulled clear to win by two lengths. She got the 1 1/4 miles on firm turf in a spectacular 1:59 4/5 after never having raced beyond a mile previously.

"What a filly!" complemented DIMITROVA's rider, David Flores, who was on the filly for the first time. "The moment I saw her, I could tell. There was something special when I saw her in the paddock. She gave me a tremendous run in the last eighth of a mile."

Trainer Dermot Weld agreed. "She's a very solid, very sound, mentally tough filly. I just thought she was the right filly for the race...Maybe we'll try her in the Yellow Ribbon-G1 or Matriarch-G1, races like that, but today was the day for her. She's a lovely filly. When she quickens it's all over."
