ALJABR'S PROGENY FEATURED
IN DRF ARTICLE
The soon to be 2-year-old progeny of ALJABR are featured in an
article by pedigree handicapping expert Lauren Stitch which appears
in an issue of this past week's Daily Racing Form. The
article previews the freshman sires whose first runners will debut
in 2004. An excerpt follows:
"ALJABR has the distinction of being a Group 1 winner at two,
three and four and his best distance was one mile. His high-quality
book of mares includes winners or dams of the winners of the Epsom
Derby, Irish 1000 Guineas, Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, Yorkshire
Oaks, and other top races. His runners will ultimately perform best
on grass. It would, however, be no surprise to see some of ALJABR's
offspring win on dirt because of Storm Cat's brilliant
influence."

ROUSING EDITION OF SHADWELL TURF MILE-G1 IN THE
BOOKS
Keeneland's feature race today was the $600,000 Shadwell Turf
Mile S.-G1, now an annual feature and a highly-anticipated event on
the racing calendar. The 2003 G1 event featured a wide-open field
and was won impressively by Perfect Soul (IRE), a 5-year-old
homebred for Charles E. Fipke who is trained by Roger Attfield.
Perfect Soul (IRE) raced midpack until uncorking an explosive burst
of speed and charging hard in the final sixteenth to prove best by
three-quarters of a length. Jockey Edgar Prado, who also won last
year's race with Landseer, urged him to the wire.
Perfect Soul (IRE), who owned a win over the course in April and
was most recently third in the Atto Mile-G1, got the distance in
1:36. Third Turn Stables' Honor in War and Gainsborough Farm's Touch
of the Blues (FR) followed the winner home.

SWAIN'S MUQBIL ADDS YET
ANOTHER GROUP EVENT TO HIS LEDGER
MUQBIL (00 c, o/o Istiqlal, by Diesis (GB)), the consistent group
horse who was SWAIN's first winner and first stakes winner, added
another G3 race to his burgeoning resume. The 3-year-old colt
tracked the front runner in the Shadwell Stud Joel S.-G3 at
Newmarket in England, but the leader had the tactical advantage and
MUQBIL was unable to catch him, finishing third in the G3 affair at
one mile. The Racing Post said MUQBIL "was far from
disgraced" in the "strong G3" and "has proved to be a benchmark at
this level."
Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm LLC, MUQBIL now has an
exceptional five stakes wins or placings from six career starts. The
first-crop son of SWAIN campaigns for Hamdan al Maktoum.

JOVIAL JOSHUA (01 c, o/o Ikhteyaar, by Mr. Prospector) tallied a
smashing victory at Thistledown in a maiden special weight. The
2-year-old colt shot clear of the field at the start of the 5 1/2
furlong maiden and made it look easy, drawing clear to finally win
by a remarkable 14 1/4 lengths. The Equibase chart labeled the son
of BAHRI's victory "as much the best while being ridden out."
BAHRI's third juvenile winner of the year, JOVIAL JOSHUA was bred
in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm LLC and now has a win and two
second-place finishes in three starts. He sold in Shadwell's
Keeneland September Yearling consignment in 2002 and now races for

DIMITROVA WINS THE FLOWER BOWL TO BECOME SWAIN'S 1ST G1
WINNER
The exceptional DIMITROVA (00 f, o/o The Caretaker (IRE), by
Caerleon), a member of SWAIN's first crop of 3-year-olds, may be
based in Ireland but she feels at home on American soil. She won the
prestigious Flower Bowl Invitational S.-G1 at Belmont Park in her
first start over older fillies and mares to push her earnings over
the $1 million mark in just eight starts. DIMITROVA raced wide
coming into the stretch but looked every bit the winner, with the
one-length margin of victory in the 1 1/4 mile G1 on the turf not a
true indication of the strength of her win.
"We had her ready for this race and she proved to be the top
filly that she is," said trainer Dermot Weld. "She is a tough,
genuine filly and we have a lot to look forward to. The obvious
direction is sending her to California for the Breeders' Cup (Filly
& Mare Turf-G1)."
Bred in Kentucky by Muirfield Ventures and campaigning for Joseph
Higgins, DIMITROVA now has three stakes wins and two additional G1
placings in only eight starts. With this G1 win, she becomes the
second graded or group winner in SWAIN's first crop.
September 24, 2003
MONMOUTH WINNER SHIRE IS SWAIN'S 27TH INDIVIDUAL

SHIRE (00 c, o/o Territory, by Forty Niner) broke his maiden as
the favorite in this 1 1/16 mile test on the turf at Monmouth Park
and, in doing so, became his young sire's 27th individual winner.
The Claiborne Farm homebred had a rough start at the beginning of
the race and got shuffled back to the last position. He came off the
rail in the final turn and asserted himself in a long drive through
the stretch to come home the victor by three-quarters of a
length.
The 3-year-old colt is out of the Forty Niner mare Territory, who
was unraced but is a full sister to graded winner Announce. She also

the Cat.

UNBUCKLE IS SWAIN'S 2ND NEW MAIDEN
WINNER IN TWO DAYS
Robert Stallings' UNBUCKLE (01 c, o/o Clabber Girl, by Alydar)
became the second new maiden winner for sophomore sire SWAIN in two
days, in addition to SWAIN's third second-crop 2-year-old winner
this year. UNBUCKLE bested a full field of 12 in a $42,000 maiden
special weight at Belmont Park by rating mid-pack and making a
four-wide move on the turn. He opened up by daylight in the stretch
and crossed the wire 2 3/4 lengths clear. He covered the mile on
turf in a quick 1:35 as the favorite.
Bred in New York by John A. Nerud Revocable Trust, UNBUCKLE is
out of the Alydar mare Clabber Girl. She won the 1988 Top Flight
H.-G1 in addition to two other graded stakes, placed in 12 other
stakes, including the Breeders' Cup Distaff-G1, and earned over $1
million.
September 17, 2003
INNER THOUGHTS IS SWAIN'S 25TH
WINNER
INNER THOUGHTS (00 f, o/o Interpretive Mood, by Nureyev), a
homebred for G. Watts Humphrey and family, broke her maiden at
Monmouth going 8 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The 3-year-old filly
stalked the frontrunners while between rivals for much of the early
going and made a bid for the lead on the turn. She made the front in
the stretch and maintained a half-length advantage to the wire to
pick up her first career victory.
The Kentucky-bred filly is out of the Nureyev mare Interpretive
Mood, a full sister to Irish Cartier Million winner Rinka Das who
was also multiple graded stakes-placed in the U.S. Other members of
the immediate family include Pacific Classic winner Missionary
Ridge.

SWAIN'S MUQBIL ADDS
ANOTHER G3 EVENT TO HIS RESUME
MUQBIL (00 c, o/o Istiqlal, by Diesis (GB)) was his sire's first
group winner earlier this year and added yet another group placing
to his record in the Select S.-G3 at Goodwood in England.
Unfortunately, MUQBIL was trapped on the inside and plagued by
traffic problems throughout the 1 1/4 mile race. He finished
extremely well to just miss the win by a neck.
The Racing Post had the following to say, "The Greenham
winner MUQBIL had a wretched passage, for it was only well inside
the final furlong that he saw daylight. He finished well and was
arguably unlucky. He stayed the trip well and also has the Champion
Stakes as an option."
It was MUQBIL's fourth stakes win or placing (three of which have
been group events) in only five career starts. He is out of a
half-sister to Shadwell stallion BAHRI and from the family of
Breeders' Cup winner Ajina. Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm LLC,
the first-crop SWAIN son races for Hamdan al Maktoum.

MAJOR SWAIN SW DIMITROVA PLACES
IN SECOND GRADE/GROUP 1
Two months after her spectacular victory in the $750,000 American
Oaks, DIMITROVA (00 f, o/o The Caretaker (IRE), by Caerleon) made a
second foray onto American soil and came away with a strong
runner-up finish in the Garden City Breeders' Cup H.-G1 at Belmont
going nine furlongs on the turf. The 3-year-old filly from SWAIN's
first crop was in a good position midpack and angled between horses
at the quarter pole. She made a bold run to the front and looked
well clear, but was caught late by a rival. It was DIMITROVA's
fourth stakes win or placing, including the Irish 1000
Guineas-G1.
A half-sister to champion Mutafaweq, DIMITROVA was bred in
Kentucky by Muirfield Ventures. The daughter of Irish highweight The
Caretaker (IRE), she races for Joseph Higgins of Ireland.

STYLE IN CALDER MSW
COQUINERIE (01 f, o/o Istinad, by Kris S.) became the second

slowly in the maiden special weight field of nine and trailed thru
the first half of the one mile dirt race. She began moving on the
turn and angeled out in the stretch, putting in a furious and
determined drive to catch the leader by a nose on the wire.
Bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm LLC, COQUINERIE is the first

SWAIN TOPS BY PERFORMANCE
INDEX
Shadwell's brilliant champion SWAIN, now a sophomore stallion, is
ranked number one on a list published by BRIS Net: Leading Sires by
SPI (Stallion Performance Index). SPI is defined as the average
racing class of a stallion's foals. It is an average of the Standard
Starts Index (SSI) of all of a stallion's foals which have started

which means that his runners earn on the average over 16 times the
national average per start. He also leads the Leading Second Crop

Kentucky-breds by SPI, etc. He is far and away above the other sires
on these lists.
SWAIN's first foals are now 3-year-olds and he already counts 22
winners and an impressive five stakes horses, including recent
American Oaks winner Dimitrova, among his runners. His second crop

easily to the front when she idled, but came on again when gently
reminded by her rider to remain in control. She won the
seven-furlong handicap by 1 3/4 lengths. The Racing Post
called her "a filly of promise."

MADAEH IS SECOND 2ND-CROP WINNER FOR SWAIN
MADAEH (01 f, o/o Tamgeed, by Woodman) handily defeated a field
of 12 to become the second 2-year-old winner from SWAIN's second
crop. The juvenile filly broke her maiden at Lingfield in England by
2 1/2 lengths, getting the seven furlongs in 1:23 2/5. The Racing
Post chart said in part, " MADAEH...won nicely after travelling
well for much of the race and was value for more than the winning
margin. She...proved head and shoulders above her rivals and there
is little doubt she is up to winning more races. She will surely
take a step up in class after this, although her trainer reported
she will have a break before her next run. A mile will also hold no
fears for her."
MADAEH was bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm LLC and campaigns
for Skeikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum. She is from the same family
as G1 winners Elnadim and Mehthaaf, in addition to Khulood, a

VIOLET EYED DIVA WINS ANOTHER
ALLOWANCE
An allowance winner on dirt just two months ago, SWAIN'S VIOLET EYED DIVA
(00 f, o/o Kostroma (IRE), by Caerleon) switched back to turf, the
surface of her maiden win, for her latest victory. The 3-year-old
filly, who is proving herself equally adapt on both surfaces, took
this one-mile turf allowance at Mountaineer Park in a game effort.
She patiently stalked the early pace before going "head and head in
close quarters down the lane [and] gutt[ing] it out to prevail in
the last strides," according to the Equibase chart. She won
by a half-length in 1:36 3/5.
VIOLET EYED DIVA races in the colors of her trainer, Andrew
Davidovich, and was bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm. Her dam, the

Making his career debut, 2-year-old colt MUSTAMEET (01 c, o/o
Hamasah, by Irish River (FR)) become the first winner for his sire
when he took a nice maiden event at The Curragh in Ireland. It was
an impressive beginning for both the colt and for SAHM, as this colt
was only his third starter to date.
MUSTAMEET took his time after breaking from the gate and was last
for the first five furlongs of the seven furlong maiden. When asked
to challenge the field, the colt responded beautifully and soon
accelerated past all competitors for a comfortable two-length
victory. Over good ground, he got the distance in 1:27.
"He came to us from Dubai and is a really nice colt," said
trainer Kevin Prendergast. "He had a nice introduction today and
didn't have to work too hard."

SESSION
Littleton Arwen (00 f, o/o Jathibiyah, by Nureyev) brought
110,000 guineas to top the second session of the Tattersalls July

listed Betfair.com Eternal S. at Warwick by a short head just three
weeks previously.
The session-topping filly was consigned by Loretta Lodge Racing
Stables and purchased by her trainer, Terry Mills. "It was just in
my gullet that I couldn't let her go to someone else having done all
the work with her and nearly landed a listed race," said Mills.
"I'll win a group race with her," he predicted.

SWAIN'S DIMITROVA TAKES
$750,000 AMERICAN OAKS IN U.S. DEBUT
Just six weeks after placing in the Irish 1000 Guineas-G1,
SWAIN's daughter DIMITROVA (00 f, o/o The Caretaker (IRE), by
Caerleon) shipped to the U.S. and put in a sensational performance
to capture the second running of the $750,000 American Oaks at
Hollywood Park. The first-crop filly was never farther back than
fourth in the 14-horse field, split rivals leaving the backstretch
to take command, and gamely pulled clear to win by two lengths. She
got the 1 1/4 miles on firm turf in a spectacular 1:59 4/5 after
never having raced beyond a mile previously.
"What a filly!" complemented DIMITROVA's rider, David Flores, who
was on the filly for the first time. "The moment I saw her, I could
tell. There was something special when I saw her in the paddock. She
gave me a tremendous run in the last eighth of a mile."
Trainer Dermot Weld agreed. "She's a very solid, very sound,
mentally tough filly. I just thought she was the right filly for the
race...Maybe we'll try her in the Yellow Ribbon-G1 or Matriarch-G1,
races like that, but today was the day for her. She's a lovely
filly. When she quickens it's all over."
Owned by Joseph Higgins of Ireland, DIMITROVA has now won three
of six career starts, including two stakes. A half-sister to
champion Mutafaweq, she was bred in Kentucky by Muirfield Ventures
and is out of Irish highweight The Caretaker (IRE).

WINNER IN TWO DAYS
SWAIN's daughter AYUN (00 f, o/o Oumaldaaya, by Nureyev) beat
colts in this conditions event at Epsom going 10 furlongs and eight
yards. She was in front all the way, stepped up the pace in the
final three furlongs, and held the others comfortably at bay to win
by 3 1/2 lengths.
"All credit to AYUN, who ran her rivals ragged," said the
Racing Post chart. "She is a filly who can take a tug, and
her rider sensibly dictated the pace from the front, quickening
early in the straight, from which point they were never going to be
caught, both tactics and track suited her ideally."
AYUN was bred in Kentucky by Shadwell Farm LLC and campaigns for
Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum. Her older half-brother, Haami,
is a group winner in Ireland.

in a swift 1:34 2/5.
Bred in Kentucky by Fred Seitz, STANLEY PARK campaigns for Mr.

well clear of the field to win by a dominating 9 1/4 lengths even
after being wrapped up and geared down in the final furlong.

2ND NEW WINNER IN AS MANY DAYS FOR SWAIN
Fresh on the heels of his first second-crop winner, SWAIN saw one
of his yearling sales stars from his first crop convincingly take a

Summing), who graduated from Keeneland September for $750,000,
settled just a length off the leaders in the early going of the
sloppy one-mile test but had taken command by the time the field
reached the turn. He immediately opened up on the field of eight
rivals when encouraged and kept clear for a 1 3/4 length
triumph.
Bred in Kentucky by Jonabell Farm Inc, et al, ALBAAZ campaigns in
the colors of Shadwell Stable. The sophomore colt is out of Eclipse

the first three finishers in the G1 event held at the Curragh going
one mile on the yielding to soft turf. Of her close third-place
finish, the Racing Post said, "DIMITROVA, who had shown improvement
to win her first two starts of the season, continued her rate of
progress with a good display. She tracked the leader before taking
over two furlongs down, and maintained her effort all the way to the
line."

early pace and dropped back on the far turn in order to angle out
and around traffic. He made his winning move while three wide and
drew off like a seasoned professional.

daughter of French group stakes winner Elle Seule had previously
broken the Rowley Mile's seven-furlong record in the listed Oh So

Weld. "She might come back here for the Irish 1000 Guineas Trial
next month but it is more likely that we will freshen her up and go
straight for the Irish Guineas."
DIMITROVA, who campaigns in the colors of J. Higgins, is a

SHADWELL WELL-REPRESENTED IN DUBAI
Three runners closely connected to Shadwell Farm performed well
on Dubai World Cup day at Nad al Sheba. NAYEF, who was bred in

FIRST SOPHOMORE WINNER FOR SWAIN
As the sophomore season gears up across the country, SWAIN
notched his first 3-year-old winner with first-crop runner Lucky
Chap. The freshly-minted sophomore captured a top-notch maiden
special weight at about one mile on the turf at Fair Grounds. Lucky
Chap had relaxed near the back of the pack before making his move
around the final turn. He powered his way to the front a sixteenth
of a mile out and was clear by 1 3/4 lengths at the wire. The win
was Lucky Chap's second effort on the turf; his first turf try on
January 3 resulted in a game runner-up finish (by just a half
length) after his rider lost an iron.
Bred in Kentucky, Lucky Chap races as a homebred for Gainsborough
Farm LLC. Out of the Zilzal mare Yazeanhaa, Lucky Chap is from the
immediate family of dual classic winner Little Current.
